Visually Impaired Program

The Visually Impaired Program provides programs and services especially designed to assist adults 60 and older, who are losing vision, cope with their loss. Our goal is to introduce safe, new ways to manage daily tasks to persons losing vision so that they can remain independent. For example, persons losing vision can learn about:

  • Communication skills such as large print resources, talking books, braille, talking watches and alarm clocks, talking thermometers, etc.
  • Ways to manage and organize medications
  • Techniques and devices for safe cooking
  • How to enjoy your favorite leisure activity using braille and large-print games
  • Special note: if you are on Flint City Water you should be able to have bottled water and filters home delivered through the Genesee County Sheriff at 810-257-3600; however, if you are still having difficulty with the procedure please call us to help sort through it.  Anyone who has difficulty getting water to their home because of illness or disability should have water, filters and filter cartridges home delivered.

With proper training, adaptive aids and attitude, individuals with vision loss can regain their independence and quality of life.
